Het staat blijkbaar in hun gebruikersvoorwaarden maar Facebook eigent zich het recht toe om content die zij ongeschikt vinden zomaar van je profiel te wissen. Vandaag wiste Facebook een filmpje waarin een klein meisje te zien was dat puppy’s uit een emmertje in het water keilde.

Een vreselijke getuigenis van menselijke wreedheden tegenover het dier. De hevige reacties van woedende kijkers werden uiteraard ook gewist. Best wel grof eigenlijk, Fakebook is dus blijkbaar enkel een idyllische happy place?

Oh my God! It is hard to believe this kind of discrimination used to be normal and accepted.

This weekend when I was at my parents place  in a very dusty closet I stumbled upon a small piece of art that I made when I was about 9 years old. I remember quite vivid that I had the idea to make this merry go around and couldn’t get it out of my head, even when I went to bed I kept going over and over the complicated mechanism that looked so perfect in theory. So the next day I started working on it as soon as I could. I also remember the frustration when I couldn’t seem to put my idea in to practice, but I wanted so hard for it to work that I kept trying, testing and modifying. What meant, putting an overload of tape in to ash’s of the cog wheels. I don’t know how many hours it took, but in the end the merry go around worked perfectly. It was something much more playful and entertaining than for example a drawing,  and that gave me an great sense of fulfilment.

Now the decorative paper doesn’t stick that well anymore, the marry go around is crooked and the colour partly faded away (the dusty closed has glass in the doors…), but it still works and when I saw it again I got the same sense of fulfilment I had so many years ago. And I realised that today I’m looking for that feeling of fulfilment and accomplishment in every project that I do…
